Paths To Wellness - For People Affected by Mental Illness and Addiction

Living with Mental Illness

Diagnosed With Mental Disease Little is more daunting than being diagnosed with mental disease or observing someone we love struggle with addiction. The startling truth is that nearly half of us are, or have been, affected by mental illness and addiction, and the number is growing all the time. Stressors of daily living, including acting upon values related more to acquisition and youthful beauty than to humanity, contribute to our declining well being, and our various health, education and justice institutions are having trouble keeping up with the consequences of our societal lifestyle. Of course, biology provides its own explanations for illness of all descriptions; understanding how we arrive at our difficulties is not altogether helpful in the day to day. Somewhere on our path to wellness, we need two things: the voice of experience and practical recovery skills. This website is created by those who can provide both, those whose experience includes mental disease, or addiction, or both, who share with us the most effective ways of dealing with the voices and the cravings and the despair, and whose very being assures us we are not alone on the path. The most often encountered conditions are described in some detail, so that choices can be made about wellness that are informed. Whether you or someone you love could use a helping hand, you'll find it here.
